Fancy a Fish Tank Shower?

Does it get any better than a shower with a fish tank underneath? We’re not sure it can…

fish-tank-shower

An Australian company has designed an innovative spa-style Vichy showering system complete with a glass tank underneath. The glass tank can house anything you like, from any type of environment… imagine a tropical rainforest, a desert wilderness, or even the deepest ocean floor… to completely engage your imagination and senses.

Called the HydroGlass by HydroCo, it allows any type of spa treatment to be performed – body scrubs, wraps and even thermal treatments. The HydroGlass incorporates an organic design, and can accommodate tile, wood or metals to achieve any kind of look. Water efficiency has also been considered, and individual shower head flow control means that up to 80% water savings can be achieved compared to traditional Vichy Shower treatments.

New Era in Air Travel – Photon Showers

Business travellers are always looking for ways to make travelling more comfortable. After all, frequenting flying is tiring and business travellers often have meetings straight from the airport. What little sleep they manage to get on the flight is often interrupted, causing stress and tiredness. Furthermore, time differences and jet lag can make the situation even worse.

So, Delta Airlines have presented a concept “photon shower” which uses bright lights instead of water to wake up tired travellers. It’s been described as a “90 second light bath”. When the starting and destination cities are put into the shower, it can calculate how many time zones have been crossed and how much light is therefore needed to combat jet lag. Very clever!

Photon Shower

This is not the first time an airline has experimented with light therapy; Finnair has offered business travellers bright light therapy into the ear canal since 2012.

What do you think of this “light shower”? Would you be tempted to use it on a long flight?

At the moment it is just a concept product, but it could be making its way to aeroplanes in the future.

Fancy using your iPad in the shower?

As our lives get more and more busy, our need to multitask gets greater. Now, here at Gainsborough, when we have a shower, we like to concentrate on enjoying the shower (surprise, surprise), but there are some people who would prefer to surf the web, or maybe check their email while they shampoo and condition.

There are already studies proving that we get anxious when separated from our phones, so there are probably many of us out there who would prefer to keep hold of the phone or tablet in the shower. Now, with water and technology not really getting along, these workaholics have been previously unable to multitask with their iPhone or iPad in the shower, but in the not-so-distant future, they may indeed get their wish.

Le Terme

A design concept called “Le Terme” has been created by Fei Chung Billy Ho and was a finalist in the Reece Bathroom Innovation Award in Australia. Le Terme is made of stainless steel with interactive glass panels that can be synced to any smart phone or tablet, meaning you can use the phone, watch videos or surf the web at no risk to your phone or tablet. The shower also allows you to listen to music – a huge plus for anyone who likes listening to songs and singing while in the shower (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) The base of Le Terme is made from cypress wood, which kills bacteria, fungus and viral infections, helping to maintain a hygienic environment, with no need for deep-cleaning.

Le Terme

We’re quite impressed by the technology, but what do you think? Would you like a shower like this in your home?

Add Some Luxury To Your Bathroom (Bling Part 2!)

We love to explore the web in search of weird and interesting bathroom oddities, and our latest find is this extravagant ‘Chandelier Shower’. Slightly OTT in our opinion, but we may put the idea forward to our R&D department and see how it goes down!

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to a chandelier shower, then why not check out our less extravagant ideas…

We all like to pamper ourselves now and then, but while we may have to limit the luxury spa breaks to special occasions, we can definitely inject a ‘touch of luxury’ into our daily lives! Making some changes to your bathroom is an easy way to add some luxury to your daily routine:

  • Think about Lighting

Interior lights can play a major part in a room’s atmosphere. If you’re adding a new bathroom suite, or giving the room a fresh coat of paint, why not add some complementary lighting to make the room look its best? It will make such a difference to the room to add some strategic lighting points. And if you have the budget/capability – add a skylight to improve visibility further whilst adding a source of natural light.

  • Upgrade the fixtures

By simply changing some handles and taps, you can make a huge difference to the bathroom. Stylish chrome is always a popular choice as it complements most bathroom designs. Adding accessories to match your theme can also make an impact – think about towel racks, shelves and hooks to complete the look. In addition, think about what bottles and lotions you have on display, and make sure they fit in with your theme.

  • What about Warmth

No-one likes a chilly bathroom, and certainly, anyone wanting to achieve a luxury spa feel would fall at the first hurdle if the bathroom was cold. Have you got a heated towel rail? If not, consider installing one. It will keep your towels lovely and warm, and will also add some heat to the room, making it a cosy and warm environment. If your bathroom is especially cold, then it may be worth installing a discreet room heater that won’t detract from the bathroom decor but will create a lovely, warm atmosphere.

And last of all, don’t forget – fluffy towels, candles (be safe!), some relaxing music and a good book!

Crazy Bathroom Accessories

We see a lot of strange bathroom related products on our travels through the world wide web. Seeing as it’s a lovely, sunny, Friday, we’d like to share some of the more wacky ones with you today….

moss mat

This moss bathroom mat is apparently designed to ‘connect you to nature’ – with the combination of the running water of the shower and the feel of soft moss underfoot. As you step out of the shower, the soft mat is supposed to be the ideal massage of the acupuncture points situated on the sole of the foot. The moss actually grows over time, the humidity from the bathroom providing the perfect conditions for it, and will stay green for several months.  The mat costs around €80.00 and is available from HoO design.

Here is another weird, and, if we’re honest, slightly disgusting product, a Nose Gel dispenser:

Nose Gel Dispenser

It’s meant as a joke addition to the bathroom to make shower-time fun for children and adults with a, slightly childish, sense of humour!

This one has quite a useful purpose:

Shower notepad

So when those moments of inspiration come to you in the shower, you’ll have somewhere to write them!

Finally, this last product is rather cool:

iPod toilet roll

For anyone who can’t live without their iPod or iPhone, you’re now able to take to the bathroom with you. You can now sing along to your favourite songs in the shower – you can even create a special playlist!

Happy Friday!

Crazy Shower Caps!

Shower caps are funny things. Many of us have them – they play an essential role in keeping our hair dry when we need to have a shower but don’t necessarily want to wash our hair, yet they have this reputation of being slightly old-fashioned and ‘un-cool’. Well, no longer do shower caps have to be boring, embarrassing items that you keep hidden away in the bathroom.

While doing some online research, we came across a website selling novelty shower caps, which are sure to brighten up even the earliest of morning showers.

This funky shower cap featuring a Hippy Chick theme is a particular favourite in our office:

What’s your favourite? Check out the whole range at http://dillydaydream.com/
